Jellicle cats come to Broadway today

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical Cats opened on Broadway today in 1982. It ran a for a whopping 7,485 performances, finally closing at the Winter Garden Theatre on September 10, 2000. It held the record for “longest running Broadway musical” until Phantom of the Opera, another Webber musical, surpassed it.

What — you NEVER saw Cats?? You’re in luck — you can experience in the comfort of your easy chair thanks to the DVD version that came out just a few years ago. After seeing the show twice on Broadway, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the DVD’s presentation. It leaves out a bit of the original show, but I honestly didn’t miss that section.
